Vinyl Grocery Basket

Vinyl Grocery Basket This project was completed December 13th, 2019 by Mitchell Hollis.  You can also view it on Instagram and Instructables .     Since I live across the street from two different grocery stores and around the corner from a produce stand, I wanted some sort of basket to carry my groceries in if I decided to walk there. Also I rarely buy enough stuff to justify a push cart, but often there aren’t baskets by the front door. Initially I was going to sew it out of canvas, but didn’t want to look like a shop lifter tucking things away into a bag. I figured something out of clear vinyl would be less suspicious. Acquiring Vinyl       I went to Joann Fabrics and picked up the thickest clear vinyl they had. As it turns out, two yards was way too much… Sewing the Box     The main basket was pretty simple, just a big old box sewn from five panels. I left the seams facing out since the vinyl was thick enough I didn’t thin...

RetroPie Console 2 - Radio

RetroPie Console 2 - Radio This project was completed on October 12, 2019 by Mitchell Hollis and can also be viewed on Instagram .     After playing around with the last RetroPie Console , I wanted to make another one for myself.  This time I started out with the empty shell of an old Crosley radio.  My dad likes to fix old radios and had a number of these exteriors waiting for a good project.        Everything is held in place with a couple blocks of wood.  One has the Raspberry Pi mounted with some motherboard standoffs . The second blocks holds a couple pieces of acrylic.  The front most acrylic sheet has some sparkly gold fabric spray glued to it.  This looks like grill cloth from the front of the radio.  The second sheet of acrylic is spaced back about an inch and has a few adhesive LED strips .  The strips are connected to the 5v pin on the Raspberry Pi, so the light up with it powers on.   ...

RetroPie Console 1

RetroPie Console 1 This project was completed on September 19th, 2019.  You can also view it on Instagram .       This is a little emulator console I made for my buddy out of a Raspberry Pi .  It runs some software called RetroPie , that lets you run emulators of old consoles. Internal Frame     I made the internal frame out of poplar.  The Raspberry Pi was attacked to the inside of the top with some motherboard standoffs . Aluminum     I used a sheet of thin aluminum and some silver tacks to cover the front and top of the console.  I made the internal structure the same width as the aluminum sheet, so that I only had to cut it to length, and didn't have as many jagged edges to deal with. Scales       I used a Mexican wood called chechen to make the side scales.  They are a tad proud of the top and front to protect against the edge of the aluminum sheet.  I used danish oil to finish...
